My grandfather devoted more time to his secret passion for astronomy than to directing his own iron casting company, which he lost in the end. He enjoyed constructing complex homemade telescopes and jotting down in notebooks the movements of the stars. One day, while inspecting one of the unbelievable instruments he used to handcraft —a solar oven made of mirrors that he had designed to light his cigars— I realized that the structure of the device consisting of a series of concentric aisles with a parabolic roof, was made up of invoices and accounting sheets.

Mi abuelo dedicó más tiempo a su afición secreta por la astronomia que a dirigir su propia empresa de fundiciones del hierro, que acabó perdiendo. Se entretenía en construir complejos telescopios caseros y apuntar en cuadernos el movimiento de las estrellas. Un día, inspeccionando otro de los inverosímiles instrumentos que fabricaba artesanalmente -un horno solar hecho de espejos que diseñó para encender sus puros- me dí cuenta de que la estructura del artilugio, una suerte de pasillos concéntricos de techo parabólico, estaba hecha de facturas y hojas de contabilidad.
